This list changes over time as I get more or less interested in certain characters or canons. I update it as those changes occur. Last update: 7/7/20.

CANON CHARACTERS
Canons are in alphabetical order.

KEY

There are two aspects to how I think about "muse strength" as it pertains to myself:

1) Experience: How confident do I feel playing this character? How well-versed am I in their canon? Would canon-reviewing be a pleasurable experience, or an annoying chore? How much experience do I have actually chucking them at other people and seeing what happens rather than just thinking my own thoughts inside my head?
2) Passion: How invested am I in this character? Can I babble about their psychology and development for hours, or will I change the subject after a while? Am I excited by the possibilities when I consider apping them to a game and building CR? Do they make me have intense attacks of The Feelings?

These two things are often interrelated but not identical, so I indicate the first via text formatting and the second via a star system.

Bold - Confident. I've played them a lot, and doing so is something I find relaxing and energizing. Even when I'm not actively playing them, picking them up again is effortless, and I probably canon-review just for the pleasure of it.

Plain - Competent. I've played them before, I enjoy it a lot, and I feel like I understand them well. Nothing complicated here.

Italics - Complicated. These are often characters I've never actually played but have thought about playing a lot, or who I haven't played in a long time and the review process is daunting, or who are especially stressful or demanding in some way. Note: since I've been out of journal RP for so long, most of my muselist currently falls into this category. I suspect that may change if I start keeping up with DWRP more.

Italics and greyed out - Iffy. Usually these are characters where I toy with the idea of playing them sometimes, but I think I would have difficulty sustaining a voice, or some aspect of their canon is obnoxious or difficult to engage with, or there are distinct challenges to playing them that I just don't know if I want to tackle. They're still on here either because I've played them in the past or because I eventually would like to do so despite the challenges.

★★★★ - very strong ping; these are typically the characters I consider my "mains" if they're bolded. it goes without saying that I am deeply invested and have many emotions. likely to babble about them for hours in an excessively passionate manner if given half a chance.

★★★☆ - strong ping; if four stars is a wildfire then three stars is still a very respectable roaring bonfire of enthusiasm. lots of passion and investment here, and I love thinking through CR possibilities and how they'd react to various settings.

★★☆☆ - medium ping; very appealing to me and fun to think about playing sometimes, but I'm not always feeling it. if I get in A Mood I'll go looking for the right setting or storyline to take them for a spin. sometimes these are older muses who used to be mains, but my passion for them and their canon has faded over time.

★☆☆☆ - weak ping; a bright enough spark to make the list, but not enough to be catching. there's enough investment here that if a really compelling setting or storyline presented itself I could be tempted to give it a go, but I'm unlikely to go looking for one on my own time.
