FFXIV Character Portraits

Solele Sole is a cheerful, sunny optimist of an adventurer from a tiny island south of Vylbrand, where her ancestors have been herding sheep and producing textiles for at least a hundred years. Growing up with her massive extended family--9 siblings, several nieces and nephews, and a smattering of aunts, uncles, and cousins all on the same island--honed her social skills and made her a fantastic listener. She'll walk into a bar at sundown, and walk out again at midnight having made six new friends along the way, though she'll forget their names inside a week (not, however, their stories). All in all, she's an adventurer's adventurer: roaming where the wind takes her, and content to forever be running toward the horizon. Excitement and adrenaline are her indulgences of choice, but behind the scenes, the weight of responsibility weighs heavily on her. Her strong sense of justice makes it impossible for her to ignore those who could use her help, but as her skills grow, that number grows with them.

Tsensen Dazkar is a harsh, implacable woman even by Dazkar standards. Serious and self-contained, she speaks with an eloquent diction that often reads as formal, but the content of her words can be blunt to the point of cruelty: she does not care for social niceties, and will call a fool a fool without hesitation or regret. She was once highly respected within her tribe, with a beautiful husband and three warrior daughters who were soon to come of age. But when her entire family was killed at the hand of the Garlean Empire, she turned toward the only power that has so far stood against their armies: the Eorzeans. Most of the time, she barely holds herself back from strangling the lot of them.

Adelaide Charlemont comes from a long line of ancient Gridanian nobility--back when that meant something, as her grandfather would say. After an incident during her teenage years, the uber-conservative patriarch threatened to disinherit her, but her parents brokered a compromise: they sent her away to their summer home in North Shroud, where she would dwell in isolation, far from family and friends, until she learned how a young woman of the Charlemont family ought to behave. Several years later, when the man grew ill, she was permitted to return, and he disinherited her from his death bed after she refused to renounce her actions. So Adelaide has entered into the world of the small folk as an adventurer, eager to make her own way and seize her own destiny. Though years of emotional abuse have made her relieved to finally sever ties from House Charlemont, she is now forced to confront the fact that she has no idea how the rest of the world functions--or how to find her place within what seems like a wilderness of tigers.

Jadeaux Rainger has heard the whispers of the elementals since he was old enough to walk. As a Duskwight, his people have never been widely accepted in Gridania; until his late teens, his family's cavern dwelling in the Twelveswood was the only home he knew. With no one to teach a budding Hearer--no one who could even begin to understand the way in which he experienced the world--Jadeaux learned the ways of basic conjury from the elementals themselves, in fits and starts, over the course of his upbringing. When his family's cave collapsed during the calamity, Jadeaux was the only one spared. As a quiet young man, deeply wary of civilization, this only further enhanced his isolation. He spent several years depending on the generosity of the elementals for food and stealing what he couldn't obtain via natural means. It was fortunate that the first person to catch him mid-theft was a Hearer--who immediately recognized his innate talents, and delivered him to the doorstep of the Conjurer's Guild. Jadeaux is still quiet, wary, and mistrustful: alienated among other Duskwights for his ties to the elementals, yet jaded by his family's treatment at the hands of Gridanians.

Nanathel Nathel doesn't know what she's doing, and she's learning to be okay with that. Her parents fled Ul'dah's troubling class disparity for the wild and free land of Limsa Lominsa before she was born, so Nanathel is Limsan born and raised, though don't expect her to admit it in a hurry--pirates are a sore spot ever since her mother ran off to become one when she was eight. Her merchant father recently went missing on his usual route from Limsa to Ul'dah, leaving her to pay off his various debts to some less than savory individuals. Now it's just her and her longtime bodyguard/babysitter, Rising Water, who refuses to leave her side even though she can't pay him anymore. With nothing but deadpan sass, an obsessive personality, and the mountain of books she refuses to sell, Thel is ready to take on the world... or at least some wharf rats. For pay, of course.

Resh Qestir didn't mean to fall in love with the written word. For most of her life, she was a proper young Qestiri; words were falsehoods, necessarily distorting that which they were intended to describe. Yet one can lie even without words: her secret library of literature from across the three continents grew with every summer, and her love of those illusory words began to edge toward obsession. No matter how they tried, her family could not discourage her curiosity, and as a last resort, they set her free to travel the world--in the hope that she would see the horrors that awaited her, and swiftly return home.

W'vani Tilohmo talks a good game. The problem is getting him to stop talking. A congenital deformity caused him to be born with a twisted spine and brittle bones, dashing the hopes of his small and isolated desert tribe, which had not seen a male birth in thirty summers. The only thing that saved him from being left to die in the desert was the intervention of his mother, and despite her best efforts, W'vani grew up surrounded by a messy blend of ableist resentment and expectations ranging from impossibly high to soul-crushingly low. Clever, resourceful, and slightly manic depressive, W'vani is obsessed with proving himself--and building a legacy that will outlast his lifetime. He doesn't care how many bones he has to break to get there.
